Due to OSPF's behavior of preferring intra-area routes (O) over inter-area routes (O IA) R2 will always send traffic to R3 (intra area) no matter the cost of link. Thanks RE: AR288 - help_desk - 12-19-2025 In the question exhibit, the R2 – R1 link is inside Area 1, and the R2 - R3 link is inside Area 0. So from R2’s perspective, the route to R1 over that interface is intra-area (O), not inter-area (O IA). Because both paths are intra-area, OSPF does not apply the “O preferred over O IA” rule here. It simply compares the total cost.. |
