I think how2pass has it wrong about root port elections. The answer they give says the root port election depends on the lowest sender bridge-ID. That is true for election of designated ports, but not root ports. The election of a root port occurs among ports on only one switch. The bridge ID doesn't come into play, only the root path cost or port-ID. If the root path costs are equal then the port with the lowest port-ID would be the root port for the switch.
