QID:S09 Configure an ACL to block Telnet IN on a Router (SIM) |

Hello folks,
I have been stuck on this question for some time now. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, however even after many many repeated attempts I still cannot get the answer correct. And yes, I have looked at the answer and copied the suggested ACL Configuration word-for-word. I am at my wits end and starting to believe the router sim is somehow not working OK at the moment!?
So, what the fu.. can be possibly wrong with this SIM ? - Has anybody else noticed the same problem with the S09 SIM ???
Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated!
One more supplemental question:
Do you think that the following (slightly more simple) ACL-config would be OK in the S09 Case:
access-list 100 deny tcp any any eq telnet
access-list 100 permit ip any any
+
ip access-group 100 IN
on both s1 and e0 ???
This is only 3 quite simple config lines in total, matching the IP ranges on the two Interfaces on the Austin Router, and thus blocking incomming Telnet traffic to the Router - you know...
If not - Why don't you think it would work on the Austin Router?
Cheers from
/Nick

password recovery catalyst 4000 - no confreg? |

Hi Guys,
Not exam related but figured someone might help me out here..I got a really cheap catalyst 4000 with supervisor engine II < $60 delivered and as usual it's as pulled out of the rack with a password.
Obviously I go to cisco and check the relevant document on resetting.
Problem is it appears that confreg is not present in the ROMMON prompt as displayed below
rommon 1 > ?
alias set and display aliases command
dev list the device table
dir list files in file system
copy copy file between file systems
del delete a file
undelete undelete a file
squeeze remove deleted files
history monitor command history
repeat repeat a monitor command
sync write monitor environment to Nvram
unalias unset an alias
unset unset a monitor variable
boot boot an image from flash/network
clear clear configurations, use 'clear help' for more info
help print list of available commands
ping ping an ip addr
promrestore restore a corrupted boot ROM
reset restart the system
set show/set environment vars, use 'set help' for more info
show show config parameters, use 'show help' for more info
sprom display sprom contents
version display version info
I need to get this into default config so I can mess with it in my lab but there seems to be no way to set the config-register to get it to skip the startup-config.
I've done this with all my 2500's and 4000 routers but this one has got me puzzled.
Thanks in advance.

trouble with NAT and PAT |

Hi am am trying to do the ccna skills 4 test, which includes:
frame relay
ppp
eigrp
dhcp
nat
pat
configure static routes.
Everything works fine until I get to NAT and PAT.
Here is the outline:
3 routers = ISP, Sydney, Auckland
ISP>Sydney = Frame relay
Sydney> Auckland = ppp with chap
regarding NAT the tasks are:
NAT to translate the 10.0 addresses to a 192.168.100.0/24. Use PAT to ensure that only the addresses 192.168.100.11 to .20 are translated to.
Use a static mapping of 10.10.0.1 to 192.168.0.1
my nat configs on ISP are
Interface e 0 = 10.10.0.1/16
ip nat inside
int s 0/0 = 192.168.2.1 /30
ip nat outside
access-list 1 permit 10.10.0.0 0.0.255.255
ip nat pool NAT 192.168.100.11 192.168.100.20 netmask 255.255.255.0
ip nat inside source static 10.10.0.1 192.168.100.1
ip nat inside source list 1 pool NAT overload
Sydney has a default route pointing back to ISP, which has also been redistributed to Auckkland.
Any ideas why the NAT dont work.
I cant see why
Thanks

Subnetting Made Easy |

Hi all,
Do any of you find find subnetting hard? Have you spent money on simple solutions which simply don't deliver? Are you confuesd by too many books showing different ways to subnet or colleagues expressing their opinions? Do you need to write out charts just to find your subnet?
I honestly believe I have come up with the easiest technique to learn to subnet and I guarantee that it does not involve charts, videos or any other resources that are not allowed in the exam. This simply uses your head and some VERY BASIC arithmetic.
Please view the post at http://subnettingmadeeasy.blogspot.com
Cheers and happy subnetting!

Passed 640-801 |

In my second attempt I passed today with a 898. I used this site over 4 years ago to pass the 640-607 but ths 640-801 is much harder. The simulations on this site helped the most...especially the ACL and STP ones. I wished I had used this site prior to my first attempt but I did not think much had changed from the 640-607 but boy was I wrong. This site provides great on line realistick tests that will help you pass but better than that help you be a better Engineer. Make sure you can get 81% or better on all this sites on line practice tests and you should pass. I know the new test will be harder and the CCNP track is getting harder.

composite exam vs taking 2 |

Hi
It seems like the majority doesn't take this composite exam, but I personally don't like the drag of having multiple exams when you can kill them both in one shot. I passed my CCNA today, and it was no big deal to take it in one shot.
Can anybody share their experience or thoughts in regard of taking the composite 892 exam vs separate? Is it much harder?
Thanks
