  QID:RTE039 - please explain answer
Posted by: pablo701 - 05-02-2011, 11:29 PM - Forum: CCNP ENARSI 300-410 Forum - Replies (3)

This question asks about configuring a default route.

The correct answer is:
    router eigrp 190
    redistribute static
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 null 0

The incorrect answer is:
  ip default-network 20.0.0.0

(1)
Why is the "ip default-network 20.0.0.0" answer incorrect?
(2)
In the correct answer, why the "null 0"?
The question states the link toward the internet is e 0/0. So I expected  e 0/0 to be present rather than null 0?

thanks,

pablo

Share: Subnet Calculator for iphone and ipad (free)
Posted by: o1n - 04-30-2011, 01:39 PM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

just found a good software for checking the result during learning subnet or subnetting of CCNA.
It is a free software for iphone or ipad. And it is also a good software during daily work.

Apple Store download link:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/subnet-calc/id433162412?mt=8&ls=1

Please also find th description for the software:

'Subnetting' is a tool or caculator designed to help network engineer or administrator who need to calculate various subnets or diagnose your current network problem.

You just need to type the IP address and select subnet mask from list, 'Subnetting' will tell you all you needed details information about the subnet, including below:
- Network class
- Network address
- Number of hosts
- First and last usable Host address
- Broadcast address
- Or even is it a loopback/private address.

The 'Subnetting' is also a dreamy and free teacher for preparing your CCNA exam to learn subnetting. The 'Subnetting' can be a good supervisior for checking your learning result.Do more practics then checking result with our most honest supervisior.

Using the old (4 module) 642-XXX CCNP Books for the New (3 module) CCNP Exam?
Posted by: Nick_K - 04-21-2011, 02:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Hi there!

Can I use my older Cisco Press CCNP books: (BCMSN, BSCI, ISCW and ONT) in combination with excessive CCNP training on H2P, if I want to study for and pass the complete CCNP Certification exams (Switch, Route and Troubleshoot) - I never reached to use my obsolete CCNP books when I bought them around 2 years ago (2009).

However, it could be nice if it's possible to use the mentioned books (evt. in combination with each other?) when studying for the new/revised CCNP exams (Switch, Route and Troubleshoot) - If possible!?

I'm not aware if the CCNP exam topics - all in all - will be almost the same in the old and new CCNP exam types, or if a LOT a topics perhaps has changed completely in the new (3 module) CCNP education/exam compared to the old/expired (4 module) CCNP education/exam, forcing me to buy the (3) new CCNP Books from Cisco Press ???

So, for example - If I would like to study and exercise for the new CCNP Switch exam - Which of my old CCNP books should I use (besides the BCMSN book), to accomplish this!?

Can somebody help me on this ???

/Nick K

Please help - Eagle Server CCNA Exploration
Posted by: jmsa007 - 04-14-2011, 01:17 PM - Forum: Answer this question - No Replies

Hello everyone. OK so this is what brings me here:

I'm currently pursuing a CCNA certification. I need to use a so called "Eagle Server" to do my lab exercises. I have the Linux Live CD (FEDORA CORE 3 KERNEL 2.6.12) and I have installed it on a laptop that I have (TOSHIBA EQUIUM M50-164, PSM57E). This laptop had Windows XP installed, so I created a 4GB FAT partition and booted with the Live CD. I chose the option installonFAT, then after rebooting (with CD in the tray) I chose runondisk.

Ok, here is my 1st problem: I need the CD in the tray every time I want to run Linux. Without the CD, it boots to Windows XP. Also, according to Eagle Server documentation, any modification to the server is available even after reboot. Well, that is not happening to me. Does someone have a clue why the server doesn't save the modifications? Is it because I need the Live CD to boot, even after I have installed on a FAT partition?

Another problem I have:

I need to connect the Eagle Server to a router using the Fast Ethernet LAN port:

Eagle server supports only 1 network interface card, eth0. When I first run the server it showed me that the hardware mapped to eth0 was my wireless adapter. There is no option to disable it in my BIOS, so I just removed the hardware myself. After rebooting it show eth1394 on eth0. I presume that is the FireWire Adapter.

What can I do so that eth0 is mapped to my LAN adapter (Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet)?

Is there a way do disable FireWire?

Please remember that due to 1st problem above, any changes to the server are not available after reboot Sad

So the main problem is that I can't ping from Eagle Server to the router and vice-versa Sad

If I could get any help on this, I would be greatly appreciated. Please note I'm a beginner in using Linux.

Thank you for your time.

  Broadcast
Posted by: benjaminkeen - 04-11-2011, 01:44 AM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hi everyone, my question is about broadcasts.

An IP address is composed of networks and nodes so a 255.255.255.255 is a broadcast to all hosts on the current network. Then a x.x.255.255 is a broadcast to all hosts on network x.x Finally my question is this: 255.255.x.x according to the book I am reading is a broadcast to "all networks" but how is this possible if routers break up broadcast domains?????

Thanks!

  642-813 Switching
Posted by: Cisco23 - 04-04-2011, 09:15 PM - Forum: Exam Experience - Replies (2)

Failed the 642-813 Switching Exam this morning.  My score was 770 and needed 790.  I had labs 4, 5, 6 and I had an issue with lab 4.  When I changed over to the DSW1 device and entered config t, the SIM would not allow me to create the extended access-list.  When I type the "ip access-list extended" command it would not take and would only take the access-list standard command.  I am pretty sure that I missed this lab..  I was successful in configuring ASW1 with the Radius-Server, but the DSW1 device did not like the ip access-list extended net_172 command.  :o

Furthermore the 6 question testlet\simlet that I had wasn't even close to the one on How2Pass.  The exam had the switching diagram with individual questions, but did not have access to the configs, i.e. the schroll down screen for reading the config.  There was no way to figure out the questions.  I screwed the pooch on one of the labs because I got nervous for limited time..  Out of the 50 questions, there were only around-12-14 that were similar to the How2Pass study material.  I still would have passed if I hadn't lost it on Lab6.  Does anyone know what the heck is going on with the testlet.  It wasn't even close?  Pretty much knew that i was going to fail at around question 30.  Taking a little break on taking it again in 2 weeks..  I had one question on wireless and maybe 2 on voice related issues.

Time to hit it hard and then go rip it again.  Moving Forward!!

Passed CCENT with a score of 1000
Posted by: google - 04-01-2011, 08:35 AM - Forum: Exam Experience - No Replies

Took the CCENT today, passed with a score of a 1000. Can not put enough emphasis on studying and using How2Pass as only an aid, don't rely on it. I used Richard Deal's book which i though was great. Worked my butt off for around 3 weeks. You need to fully understand the cocepts being teached and you will then be able to make educated guess if your unsure.

Now Bring on Part 2
